I’ve felt resistance to working on this project lately. I know I need to fully recalibrate all the scene settings to work at the smallest scale, and that entails doing more than simply converting some numbers. Some of these VFX setting values got genuinely screwed up, like the hand open and close effects. It feels like I’ll genuinely have to sit down for several scrutinizing hours to get this sorted out properly, with no AI escape valve to ease my struggle. Oh well. I have a few setup tasks to complete before I can even start on that. So today, let’s at least get to the starting point.
Adding all remaining missing VFX settings to the in-game menu was the type of easy manual labor I needed to get the ball rolling again. It turned out only 4 properties were left to add— collisionDetectionScaleMult, vfxSphereCollisionScaleMult, tangentialDamping, and lifeRange. I also got rid of boundsPadding—I never used it. Next, I improved UX by adding tooltips to the settings that show up on mouse hover.

I was able to reuse existing tooltips from my discarded SceneSettingsSO and used Claude to fill in new ones for any non-obvious settings.
